About · LifeDrift

I am Jun

Part-time inventory work near Chinatown, a flat on Banda Street, and a journal for the small turns an ordinary day takes before they fade.

I was born in Singapore and have lived in the central neighbourhoods for most of my adult life — first in Outram, then this flat at Blk 5 Banda Street where the corridor catches afternoon sun and the smell of someone else's dinner often reaches me before mine is ready.

I work part-time doing inventory for a small hardware supplier near Chinatown. The hours are irregular enough that I can walk in the mornings when I want to, take the long way round when a loose thread of thought needs untangling, and sit at Chinatown Complex with kopi before the market fully wakes. The other days I help my aunt with errands, mend things around the flat, and ride buses at random when I cannot decide where to be.

The name fits how I move: unhurried, willing to turn when the turn appears.

LifeDrift started because I kept losing the small parts of days. Not the big events — those stick — but the uncle who points without speaking, the hour lost in People's Park on an errand that should have taken twenty minutes, the slope up Pearl's Hill when I choose stairs over the direct route. I wanted one place to write those moments before they faded.

My entries are plain on purpose. I am not a reporter or a critic. I do not rank coffeeshops or tell you what you must see. I write about what I notice on my routes — Banda Street to Outram, the five-foot ways after cleaners pass, the bus stop where I let whichever service arrives first choose my afternoon. If you read here, you are reading a personal record, not advice.

I write in English because it is the language my notes live in, though Cantonese and a little Hokkien colour how I hear things on the street. Some sentences come out flat. Honesty matters more to me than polish.

When I am not writing, I read library books returned late without shame, fix chairs that wobble, and call a friend in Tiong Bahru who always asks whether I have eaten. Sometimes those calls become entries weeks later, when a detail returns like a kite tugging on its line.
